Transition Timeline 2024

From Monday 8th April:

Miss Wiseman, along with student ambassadors and other WHS Staff members - including Mr Burnitt (Assistant Headteacher) and representatives from our Safeguarding and SEN Teams - will visit your child’s primary school to meet Year 6 and introduce them to the transition programme.

Your child will be given a Question and Answer sheet for them to complete. This will allow them to ask us any questions, or share any worries/concerns they may have, which we can address on our next visit.

June 2024:

A second visit to Primary Schools will take place. During these visits we will return the Question and Answer Sheets with our completed responses, and share further information about our Transition Days and Year 6 Parents’ Evening.

This visit will also provide an opportunity for your child to complete an ‘About Me’ sheet, which will tell us more about their hobbies and interests, and allow us to learn more about them. There will also be an opportunity for them to nominate a friend to be ‘buddied’ up with in Form Time.

Your child will be given a letter to bring home to you. This will contain information about the Transition Days, our Transition Packs, and need-to-know information about the remaining part of the process.

w/c Monday 24th June:

Transition Packs containing essential information about the school, including uniform and equipment requirements, our daily routines, and information about catering, systems and communications, will be posted directly home to you.

The arrival of the packs is timed to enable you to read and digest information ahead of the Year 6 Parents’ Evening, where you can ask any questions you may have. Packs will also contain a Data and Consent form which must be completed and returned to the school at the Year 6 Parents’ Evening.

Thursday 27th June and Thursday 4th July:

Between 3.30pm and 4.30pm on these dates, we will be running a Treasure Hunt for Year 6 pupils and their parents. This will help pupils familiarise themselves with the school ahead of the main transition events. This will also be a suitable introduction to the school for anyone feeling a little bit anxious about joining us. Further information will follow in June, including how to book a place.

Thursday 11th July:

Transition Day 1 – Year 6 will spend the day at Withernsea High School where they will engage in sample lessons and fun activities.

Parents’ Evening – At the end of the first Transition Day, parents/carers and their children will join us on the evening for a Year 6 Parents/Carers Consultation event. This will take place between 4.00pm and 7.30pm and will provide an opportunity for you to order uniform and have your child fitted for a blazer. You will also meet key staff, including your child’s Form Tutor and members of the school’s Senior Leadership Team, as well as others who can help with any medical, attendance, mental health or additional needs issues.

Data and Consent forms from the parent packs should be returned on this night.

Friday 12th July:

Transition Day 2 – A second day of sample lessons and fun activities.

Tuesday 3rd September

First day at Withernsea High School for the new Year 7 students.
