Withernsea High School

Inspiring confident young people to thrive in a changing world

Aims and Values

Aims

Our aims are for all young people to:

Broaden their horizons

Our curriculum offers a fabulous range of subjects and appeals to students with many different interests. We want students to immerse themselves in studying subjects they know they enjoy and to broaden their experience by trying something new. We run numerous clubs and offer a wealth of extra-curricular activities. Our students are encouraged think globally and act locally: our aspirations are for young people to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives, and that they should see no barriers as to what and where they can achieve this.

These aspirations are underpinned with a strong sense of, and respect for, community. All our students are known, cared for and supported. We invest time in building positive relationships with them and their families that are built on trust and that nurture confidence.

Develop the skills, knowledge and attributes to thrive in a changing world

Learning is at the heart of all we do. We want young people not just to learn so they can be successful in examinations, but so they can develop the transferable skills to use as they move on to higher education, training and work. We have high expectations of how students study and encourage independence and responsibility for homework and revision. Our high quality Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance programme supports our students in making good choices and provides many opportunities for them to practise and demonstrate their skills.

Working effectively with others is fundamental to success in life. We encourage cooperative working, insist on respect for others and maintain high standards of behaviour and conduct. As a result ours is a respectful, tolerant and friendly school.

Achieve excellence

Our staff strive for excellence in all that they do. They carry the hopes and aspirations of young people with them and take that responsibility seriously. We know that, beyond developing confident and independent young people, it matters greatly how well students achieve at GCSE and A level. Helping our students to achieve the very best that they can, even more than they thought possible, is our goal.
