Transition Timeline 2025

Thursday 24th April

We invite you and your child to attend a formal welcome to the school, led by Mr M. R. Crofts (Headteacher).

This will be held in the school’s main hall, with a prompt start at 6.00pm.

The event, which is expected to last around an hour, will provide an opportunity for you to learn more about the day-to-day running of the school; our routines and expectations.

You will also hear from guest speakers including Mr Burnitt (Assistant Headteacher), Miss Wiseman (Head of Year 7), Mrs Tomes (Safeguarding and Wellbeing), Mr Beattie (SENCO) and Mrs Monaghan (Head of Personal Development). They will share the details of the support that will be in place for you and your child at the school, plus information about topics including behaviour, rewards, wellbeing and personal development.

A handout containing key information will be provided on the night.

Refreshments (teas, coffees and juices) will also be available.

Please confirm your attendance in advance of the event by emailing Miss Wiseman at wisemanz@wscampus.net , stating the name of your child, the primary school they are currently attending and the number of people who will be attending on the night.

From Monday 28th April

Miss Wiseman, along with other WHS Staff members including Mr Burnitt (Assistant Headteacher) and representatives from our Safeguarding and SEN Teams, will visit your child’s primary school to meet Year 6 and introduce them to the transition programme.

Your child will be given a Question and Answer sheet for them to complete. This will allow them to ask us any questions, or share any worries/concerns they may have, which we can address on our next visit.

 June

A second visit to Primary Schools will take place. During these visits we will return the Question and Answer Sheets with our completed responses and share further information about our Transition Days and Year 6 Parents’ Evening.

This visit will also provide an opportunity for your child to complete an ‘About Me’ sheet which will tell us more about their hobbies and interests and allow us to learn more about them. There will also be an opportunity for them to nominate a friend to be ‘buddied up’ with in Form Time.

Your child will be given a letter to bring home to you. This will contain information about the Transition Days, our Transition Packs, and need-to-know information about the remaining part of the process.

w/c Monday 23rd June

Transition Packs containing essential information about the school, including uniform and equipment requirements, our daily routines and information about catering, systems, and communications, will be posted directly home to you.

The arrival of the packs is timed to enable you to read and digest information ahead of the Year 6 Parents’ Evening, where you can ask any questions you may have. Packs will also contain a Data and Consent form which must be completed and returned to the school at the Year 6 Parents’ Evening.

Monday 9th June and Monday 23rd June

Between 3.30pm and 4.30pm on these dates, we will be running a Treasure Hunt for Year 6 pupils and their parents. This will help pupils familiarise themselves with the school ahead of the main transition events. This will also be a suitable introduction to the school for anyone feeling a little bit anxious about joining us. Further information will follow in June, including how to book a place.
