Key Stage 4 (Years 9, 10 and 11) Careers Introduction

In Years 9, 10 and 11, the emphasis on Careers Information, Advice and Guidance is brought to the forefront at a pivotal moment in your education.

Key Stage 4 is an important time - not only because of GCSE examinations but also because of the decisions that need to be made about what to do after Year 11.

Government legislation now states that young people up to the age of 18 MUST stay in some form of education, whether it be at Sixth Form; at college; in an apprenticeship or in employment with training.

To help you decide the best route, you will be offered taster sessions at local colleges and given opportunities to meet representatives from further and higher education providers; apprenticeship providers; business leaders and prospective employers - all of who will be on-hand to help you make informed decisions.

Withernsea High School has strong links with all of the above and we aim to provide a comprehensive and impartial careers programme which offers you access to the people and resources that are best placed to support you.

In addition, you will also benefit from regular one-on-one careers interviews where you can discuss any concerns or queries you may have.

Activities and events

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are an excellent pathway for students who want the option of learning outside of a typical classroom environment, or who want to gain vital work experience whilst still studying for a formal qualification – all while earning a wage!

More and more companies are now offering fantastic apprenticeship opportunities to young people, but often understanding them and how they work can be quite tricky to grasp.

The careers team are always on-hand to help you with advice and guidance about apprenticeships, including how to find and apply for them.

We also publish weekly live apprenticeship opportunities on our website (see below) which offer a wide range of opportunities in different sectors around the local area.

As with the colleges, we are proud to have great links with many of the apprenticeship providers in the area. Many of them regularly attend our careers events in school so all students have a chance to access information regarding what apprenticeships can offer.

For further information, please visit the websites listed below and don't forget to check out the latest apprenticeship opportunities!
