The ultimate aim of the Science department at Withernsea High School is to inspire curiosity in all pupils so that they have the aspiration and skills to engage further with science in their lives.

Useful for careers in…

STEM, Engineering, Healthcare, Biology,
Astronomy, Ecology, Chemistry, Physics,
the list is endless...

Science is a fascinating and engaging subject which can fire a student’s curiosity about phenomena in the world around them. It engages learners at many levels, linking direct practical experience with scientific ideas. It is a fundamental part of our culture in a world which is constantly evolving and in which scientific knowledge and understanding is advancing rapidly. It is a key part of the STEM range of subjects and provides our students with the necessary skills to pursue careers in many STEM related industries.

In Key Stage 4 the topics studied in Key Stage 3 are revisited, consolidated and developed further. Students will all follow a GCSE double award science course. This will provide every student with a solid foundation from which they can progress to A-level or other higher level science courses. A small number of students may complete an entry level qualification alongside the combined GCSE course.

We use the AQA exam board for all Science GCSE’s.
