Class of 2018 - Year 11 Prom

The annual Year 11 Prom is a firm favourite in Withernsea High School’s events calendar as it provides a final opportunity for the year group to socialise en-masse before going their separate ways in to further education, training or employment.

This year, around 85 students from the Year 11 cohort, along with approximately 25 teaching and non-teaching staff, came together to celebrate the end of the GCSE exams, which in turn marked the end of the students’ five years of compulsory education at the school.

The event took place at the Country Park Inn on Hessle Foreshore, with the continuing good weather and the stunning backdrop of the Humber Bridge providing an excellent photogenic setting for the occasion.

In keeping with long-established tradition, many students first gathered at the school to pose for photographs with friends and family before making their way to the venue in a variety of hired vehicles.

Upon arrival, attendees were each presented with a copy of the 2018 Yearbook – a book compiling photos and key moments from their time in high school – plus a special leavers’ ‘survival kit’.

Throughout the event, the students enjoyed access to a much-used Photobooth, a tasty Sweet Cart and were also treated to a full BBQ buffet. The evening’s entertainment came courtesy of the Fincham Family of Golden Sands Holiday Park who kindly sponsored the hire of a DJ who kept the dancefloor full all night.

The night was a resounding success and was a fitting way for the students to say goodbye to each other.

The event was organised by WHS staff members Zoie Wiseman and Tim Nuttall. Mr Nuttall commented: 'On behalf of the school and the Year 11 students, I would like to thank Miss Wiseman and everyone else involved for the hard work put in behind the scenes. From fundraising to finalising plans for the event itself, many people were involved in ensuring the event was a great success.

I know all the students thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the evening and it was the perfect way for them to celebrate the end of their time at Withernsea High School.

We look forward to welcoming some of the cohort back to Sixth Form in September, but for those who are leaving us for different opportunities, we would like to wish you the very best of luck for whatever the future brings.'
