Competitions going swimmingly for Abbie

Congratulations to Year 11 student Abbie Bowden who recently won a Silver medal in the 200m and a Gold medal in the 800m front crawl at Swim England’s National Summer Meet, becoming English Champion in the discipline.

Abbie has been swimming for a competitive club since was six years old and has graduated through the various levels of competitions, from small local club competitions to regional championships. This has then led to progression through the Yorkshire Championships and North East Regional Championships to achieving entry times in the National and British Championships.

Abbie’s success this summer means she has now gained qualifying times for the Winter National Championships in December. She is also awaiting confirmation that she has qualified for the British Championships in March 2018. This will take place in Glasgow in conjunction with the Edinburgh International Swim meet which prepares swimmers for qualification in to the Junior Commonwealth Games.

This level of success is only achievable through a great deal of hard work and dedication, with regular gym sessions, 4.30am starts for training mornings and swimming seven days a week to average 45,000 meters swimming per week.

We look forward to sharing more of Abbie’s success through our website in the coming months.

Headteacher Richard Williman recently met with Abbie to congratulate her on her success. Abbie proudly showed off her medals and Mr Williman congratulated her on behalf of everyone at the school.
