Recap of the week: Monday 28th September - Friday 2nd October

Several letters have gone out to parents/carers this week outlining various changes and updates across the school.

We have consolidated these updates below to ensure you have seen those that are important for you and your children.

School uniform update
FAO: Parents/carers of students in all years

As the temperature slowly starts to drop, we are allowing students to wear a black sweater (or WHS PE top) under their blazer.

Remote Learning
FAO: Parents/carers of students in all years

We are taking this opportunity to improve our remote learning provision. This will support study, home learning and, if needed, remote learning.

Knowing the level of internet access you have at home will help us plan this important learning platform. Please complete the survey to help us plan quickly and effectively.

GCSE Pod
FAO: Parents/carers of students in all Years 9, 10 and 11

Linked to remote learning, students in Years 9, 10 and 11 have activated their GCSE Pod accounts over the last week. Over 70% of students have now done this, and completed at least one ‘pod’.

Year 7 Cognitive Ability Tests
FAO: Parents/carers of students in Year 7

Over the next two weeks our newest students will be completing CAT tests in lesson time. As Mrs Mackenzie has explained in her letter, this is not something to be worried about at all, and will only help us help your children as we move forward.

Parent Forum
FAO: Parents/carers of students in all years

During lockdown a number of parents expressed their interest in joining the Parent Forum. This is an informal meeting where parents can learn about, discuss and feedback on issues affecting their children and students in general.

For the school it is very helpful to get a parent's view of what we are doing and what we plan to do.

The first virtual meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 21st October at 6.00pm.

If you would like to join us, or just to find out more, please contact Mr R Mabbott (Assistant Headteacher) at mabbottr@wscampus.net

Summary

We have now completed the first month of the new academic year. It has been very different for us all but, for all the changes we have brought in to keep the school community safe, there have been many benefits. Our school community feels stronger now than ever before.

Staff have been so impressed by the calm way students have adapted to the changes, by their mature and helpful responses and by how prepared they are to work hard and learn.

We hope you and your family have an enjoyable weekend and students come back on Monday ready to go as we start the timetable at Week A again.
