'And the winner is...'

Following their 2019 celebration of pop icons and the characteristics that define them, the students of Withernsea High School return to Middleton Hall in Spring 2020 with a brand new dance production inspired by the stars of the silver screen.

‘And the winner is…’ draws inspiration from a plethora of movie icons and the soundtracks synonymous with their biggest and best-loved films.

Set in the context of a Hollywood Awards ceremony, a legendary compere will lead the audience on a journey through different eras and genres of film while the students take to the stage and dance to some of the most popular songs featured in contemporary cinema.

Teacher of Dance Mrs J Hughes commented: ‘Our students have really engaged with the theme of this year’s showcase and are working hard towards what promises to be another successful performance.

Film soundtracks are often as iconic as the actors and actresses who star on screen; with hit songs instantly conjuring imagery of specific scenes and events. It has therefore been a pleasure to create a platform where we can celebrate our favourite stars; our favourite films and our favourite songs all in one unique production.

We are delighted to be returning to Middleton Hall for this year’s performance we and look forward to welcoming the audience to our show.’

Making a special appearance as the show’s compere will be Gordon Beastall, a popular and well-respected former member of staff who many ex-students in the audience are sure to recognise. Gordon taught Drama at the school between 1974 and 2005, during which time he staged a multitude of performances and encouraged countless students in the world of performing arts.

‘And the winner is…’ features over 100 students from across all years of the school and will take place on Friday, 24th January 2020.
