Year 7 Football Tournament

On Thursday 21st November, Withernsea High School's Year 7 football team travelled to Beverley's Longcroft School to take part in a seven-a-side football tournament.

The following match report was provided by Mr Mountain...

'Withernsea made a slow start in their first game and were beaten 3-1 by a strong Driffield School team, with Ben Richardson scoring Withernsea's only goal of the game.

In their next match against Headlands School, the Withernsea team were dominant from the off - creating several chances and forcing the opposition goalkeeper into a number of saves, mainly from Ben Richardson and Robbie Leckonby, before a last minute goal from Tom Graham secured a 1-0 win for Withernsea.

Pocklington's Woldgate School were the next opponents and Withernsea played well again, but were unable to score despite several chances created by the tricky winger Oscar Duplock. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.

In their next game against Longcroft, goalkeeper James Long was on great form - making a string of fine saves. However, Withernsea unfortunately tasted defeat again - losing 1-0.

Chasing a win against Beverley Grammar in the hope of qualifying for the next round, Withernsea had to settle for a 2-2 draw thanks to two goals from Ben Richardson, expertly assisted by Tom Graham.

Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the team didn't qualify for the next round on this occasion.

Finally, special mentions go to Freddie Windas and Henry Barker for an excellent display of defending throughout the night. Also, Connor Bradley and Dean Thurkettle who performed well - bringing energy to the midfield on their first appearances for the school.'
