High School Admissions - September 2021

For students currently in Year 6 and starting High School in September 2021, the closing date for secondary school applications is Saturday 31st October.

Parents/carers should, by now, have received detailed information directly from East Riding of Yorkshire Council regarding the high school application process and the steps required to ensure their child secures a place.

As part of this process, we usually look forward to welcoming families from across Holderness to our annual Year 5 and 6 Open Evening – an event that offers prospective pupils and their parents/carers an excellent opportunity to experience first-hand what Withernsea High School has to offer.

Sadly, due to the current situation, we are unable to open our doors to the wider public at this time. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t share elements of our school with you virtually.

What is life like at Withernsea High School?

Some of you may have visited our school before and seen a glimpse of what life is like for our students and staff, whereas others may have been looking forward to their first visit. Whether you're familiar with the school or not, we hope you enjoy the following video which highlights some of the many fun things we do here at Withernsea High School.

To parents/carers: Don’t worry, it’s not all fun and games - despite how it looks in the video, our students do have to work hard as well!

To year 5 and 6: We’ll always make sure you have fun AND learn the skills you need to succeed!

Year 5 and 6 Open Evening

Although we are unable to run this year’s open evening, here are some highlights from the 2018 event. In this video you will see demonstrations and activities taking place around the full school. You might even spot some people you know!

We appreciate watching a video isn't the same as visiting us in person, but we hope this gives you a flavour of what our school has to offer.

School Transport

Inside the catchment area:

If Withernsea High School is your child’s catchment area school, and their journey is more than three miles from home to school, then they will be entitled to free transport.

Outside the catchment area:

Following considerable interest in our school from parents/carers of children who attend non-feeder primaries, an increasing number of our students now travel to us from outside our traditional catchment area.

As these numbers have increased, so too has the need to facilitate improved transport links along the A1033 to benefit students travelling to us from Burstwick, Thorngumbald and Hedon.

In September 2018, we saw the introduction of a 50% fare reimbursement scheme* aimed at helping parents/carers cover the cost of annual bus fares for students travelling to us from outside our catchment area.

* 50% reimbursement is subject to your child achieving a minimum attendance score of 95%. Should they score under 95%, a sliding scale of reimbursement amounts will be applied

Transport Guide

Full information about home to school transport, including timetables for all bus routes serving Withernsea High School, is available in our Transport Guide.

Please note: Buses are currently running to an amended timetable due to the temporary shortening of the school day. The times printed in the following guide are those that apply in normal circumstances.

Cashless Catering

Withernsea High School operates a Cashless Catering system. The system has removed the use of cash from the purchasing process, leading to a more efficient service in our canteen.

Funds can be deposited by parents/carers quickly and conveniently online through ParentPay or by students themselves using cash at one of two deposit machines located in school.

Students pay for their meals at the till using either biometric authentication (thumb print) or a PIN number to access funds that have been pre‐paid in to their account.

The system is also ‘Free School Meals’ friendly.

Our Cashless Catering brochure contains information about the Cashless Catering, ParentPay and Free School Meals systems.
