Students take part in Badminton Championship

Last Tuesday, 11th December, eight students from across Years 7 and 8 travelled to Beverley’s Longcroft School to take part in the annual East Riding Badminton Championship.

Our students performed extremely well over the course of the evening, competing against players of a high standard who were aged between 11 and 14.

The Year 8 girls had little experience of playing competition badminton but managed to hold their own in several games. They are now looking forward to next year and are practising to make sure they finish stronger in Year 9.

The boys again had little experience playing competition badminton but had been training hard at lunchtimes.

Thomas Tukora was the number one seed and took on Longcroft’s number one seed in the opening game.

Thomas gave his opponents a tough game before it was decided on a tie-break. Michael Ward suffered the same fate minutes later against Longcroft’s number two.

The boys won a few of their remaining doubles fixtures and performed extremely well, finishing second in their group behind Longcroft.

Both of our teams behaved impeccably and held their heads high throughout the competition.

Special mentions go to Mike Ward and Tom Tucorra, who both won individual singles matches, plus Freddie Wright and Will Jackson who both won doubles matches.

For the girls, Lily-Mae Curtiss put in an outstanding performance and won a lot of points.

Well done to…

Boys’ Team: Thomas Tukora, Freddie Wright, Michael Ward (all Year 8) and William Jackson (Year 7)

Girls’ Team: Ella Dovey, Lily-Mae Curtiss, Ruby Mitchell and Madison Leigh.
