Into the Hoods combines classic fairy tale characters with contemporary Hip Hop / R&B music in a production based on the Stephen Sondheim musical 'Into the Woods'. The plot follows two young children who have become lost in the hood and need to retrieve various items in exchange for their tickets home. Their journey sees them interact with a variety of characters along the way, each of whom have their own story to tell.

Teacher of Dance and show director Miss Jamie Hardy was inspired to stage the production after first seeing it performed in 2015. She fell in love with the show and felt it would allow our students to learn, develop and explore their own expressive skills. Miss Hardy explained: "Dance can be many things to many different people but for me it is not enough to just be aesthetically pleasing. Audiences can gain real meaning from characters who reach out to them and I was confident the students of Withernsea High School could achieve this."

In May 2016, Miss Hardy led a trip to London for the Sixth Form dance students to watch the show at Sadler's Wells theatre. The students were suitably impressed and left fully inspired to work on their own version.

Speaking on stage at the end of the show, Headteacher Richard Williman commented: "Tonight we saw one of the best professional productions I have ever seen any school produce. Everyone involved, both on and offstage, deserves a massive round of applause. Well done and congratulations to you all".

The production was professionally filmed and a DVD of the show will be available to purchase from the school in the near future. News of this will be released on our website. Please see below for a selection of still images taken on the night.
