The ALPS (Achieve with Lone Parent Support) programme is designed to remove some of the challenges lone parents may face when looking to move towards employment. Our Key Stage 3 (Year 8) team finished an impressive fourth overall after putting in an outstanding performance against very strong Year 9 opponents. Some excellent set shots were played, with strong team work and good sportsmanship being clearly evident.

Also finishing in fourth place were the Key Stage 4 (Year 9 and 11) players who demonstrated some excellent basketball from a team who had never played together before. This was due to a number of substitutions who were drafted in to replace three absent Year 11 students.

Our Year 9 students held their own, playing both alongside their Year 11 team mates and against Year 11 teams from other schools. There was some excellent basketball played by all involved with some good team arrangements by team captain Morgan Mahoney.

The students' coach Emma Jesney commented: 'I couldn't be more proud of the teams for stepping up, taking part and representing the school at this regional final event. I would like to congratulate all the girls for their efforts and we’re really looking forward to competing again next year.'

The results from January...

The Key Stage 3 team finished second overall after playing some fantastic basketball while displaying some outstanding determination and teamwork against really strong competition from South Hunsley, Hessle, Headlands and Market Weighton schools.

The Key Stage 4 team played fixtures against South Hunsley and Hessle, also finishing second overall in their category. The team played some amazing basketball, especially as they had some Year 9 girls playing against teams that consisted mainly of Year 11 pupils.
