Year 12 geographers swap the classroom for the coastline

Year 12 Geography students recently visited Withernsea beach to practise field skills in preparation for their independent fieldwork enquiries which they will undertake in the summer.

The aim was to investigate seasonal changes in the beach profile. They used clinometers and ranging poles to measure the change in beach angle.

Sarah Harris (Head of Humanities) who led the visit commented: 'The bonus of studying geography at Withernsea High School is that the beach is only a short walk from the classroom. It enables students to easily put their learning in to practise in a real and practical setting.'
