We are deeply saddened to hear that Mary Sloan, a former teacher of English at Withernsea High School, passed away on Wednesday 8th June after a long-fought illness.
Mary joined our school in September 1992 and became a well-respected and much loved member of staff. She is remembered with great affection by all who worked alongside her, with many colleagues speaking of the support and guidance she offered them, particularly as young teachers, as she took them under her wing in the fledgling stages of their careers.
Mary remained at the school for 19 years before retiring as second in department in July 2011. During that time she taught countless young people, some of whom went on to become her colleagues and, more importantly, friends.
The thoughts of the whole Withernsea High School community are with Mary’s family and friends at this sad time.
Mary's funeral will take place at Haltemprice Crematorium, Willerby on Tuesday 21st June at 1.30pm. Family flowers only please but donations if desired for Dove House Hospice.
