On Monday 18th July, 45 pupils attended the annual East Riding Athletics Championships, held at Costello Stadium in Hull where the pupils tested their skills against competitors from 21 other schools across the county.
Their behaviour, attitude and skill level throughout the day was exemplary .Temperatures soared in the afternoon and conditions were tough. Team Withernsea achieved numerous successes throughout the day with several pupils winning and placing in their individual heats.
The following pupils managed to go that one step further. They showed high levels of skill and determination to come away with first, second and third place out of 21 schools.
Kazia Walby - Kazia won the second heat and achieved overall third in the Girls 200 metres with a time of 31 seconds.
Abby Ineson - Abby achieved second in the Girls Year 9 High Jump with a height of 1.40.
Kain Hymus - Kain placed second in the Year 9 Boys Long Jump with a distance of 4.95 metres.
Aidan Wearmouth - Aidan was overall winner of the Year 10 Boys High Jump, clearing a height of 1.55. This makes him the East Riding Champion.
Indigo Metcalf - As well as a fantastic third place in the Year 8 Girls Discuss, Indigo was crowned overall winner and East Riding Champion of 2 Year 8 Girls Field events – the Javelin with 28.88 metres and the Shot with 9.42 metres.
