In with the new...

Monday 22nd February saw the re-opening of parts of the original school building which have been undergoing extensive refurbishment since July 2015. The handover of these areas signalled the completion of Phase Two of the on going Priority School’s Building Programme.

Phase Two has given us:

* A brand new office block and main reception area built on the school’s original facade. Please note: This is now the main entrance for ALL visitors to the school.

* A modernised and spacious entrance hall

* An open plan learning zone with a balcony overlooking the entrance hall. The balcony is a reinstated design feature of the original 1950s school that has not been seen since the mid-1970s.
The original space was known as the Gallery, it was later boarded up to form the Sixth Form room and latterly a conference room.

* Two state-of-the-art ICT computer suites

* Three History classrooms.

* A Staff Room

* Refurbished Library

* Offices for the Headteacher, PA’s to the management team, Deputy Headteacher, Director of Resources, Systems Information Manager, Examinations Officer, First Aid and Site Staff.

* Additional student toilets and disabled toilet / care facilities.

Headteacher Richard Williman commented: “We are delighted with the results of the recently completed refurbishment works which have given the oldest parts of the school a contemporary look that is in keeping with the design of our new teaching block whilst retaining the character of the original building. The consistent design approach employed across the whole school ensures a seamless transition between old and new, providing our students with the very best environment in which to learn and be successful.”

The final phase of the programme will see the continued clearing and landscaping of the old site, the construction of a flood-lit, all-weather sports pitch and the completion of work to fit stage lighting and sound equipment in the main hall.

Please see below for a selection of pictures of the refurbished areas of the school.

to the main hall. The other two rooms are a general store room and the reprographics room. These rooms are directly under
