Out with the old...

Work to demolish the redundant buildings of the original school is nearing completion with the final block set to be bulldozed next week.

Since demolition began on Thursday 7th January it has taken only one month for three former teaching blocks to be consigned to the history books. ‘E Block’ (Design Technology and Drama) was the first to go, followed by ‘F Block’ (Languages, Geography, Music, Dance and IT) then ‘D Block’ (Art, Science and History). During the recent half term break the old Sports Hall was also levelled, leaving only the ‘C Block’ (English, Maths, Science and IT) left to face its inevitable fate.

Between September 2015 and this February’s half term, ‘C Block’ was used as temporary accommodation for History and ICT classes plus various offices including the school’s main office.  This temporary measure was necessary whilst we awaited the completion of the extensive refurbishments to the spaces in the old building which would eventually house these facilities. As of this Monday (22nd February) these new spaces have now opened. Please click here to read more about the refurbishment.

On Friday 12th February, the final lessons were taught in C Block – bringing an end to 60 years of continuous education in the original 1950s building.

Please see below for a selection of pictures taken throughout the demolition process. More pictures and video footage will follow in due course.

Students from Miss Aitken's Year 8 History group became the final class to be taught in the original school.

A final act of rebellion! The students leave a temporary mark on the soon to be knocked down 'C Block'.
