Withernsea High School students celebrate improved GCSE results for a third year running

Following the release of last week’s A-Level outcomes it was the turn of Year 11 students to return to Withernsea High School to collect their GCSE results today.

This year 59% of students gained an A*-C grade in both English and Maths, which represents an improvement in attainment in both subjects for a third consecutive year. In addition, attainment in Science and a significant number of other foundation subjects continues to be strong.

This improving trend is also reflected in the rates of progress made by students at the school which have shown an increase for a third year. Early indications also suggest that students have made progress above the national average using the Government’s new Progress 8 measure.

Headteacher Richard Williman commented: "There was a great atmosphere in school this morning and it was a real delight to join students, their families and our staff as they celebrated these results. We are delighted to see the trend of improved GCSE outcomes continue and to see strong performance across the core subjects of English, Maths and Science as well as a significant number of foundation subjects.

"It is particularly pleasing to see further improvements in the rates of progress achieved by our students across the school and is justified reward for all the hard work they have put in during their 5 years at the school.

My Congratulations go to all our students on their efforts and achievements. These would not be possible without the hard work and commitment of our teaching and support staff as well as the support from parents/carers and Governors. I would like to thank all who have worked with and supported this group of students."
