Withernsea High School 3 - 4 Hessle High School
The Year 7 football team hosted Hessle High School last night and were incredibly unfortunate not to come away with the points.
Due to absences, Withernsea were forced into several changes including the inclusion of Ben Dove making his debut at right back. This did not stop the hosts controlling the first half and fine goals from Brad Walsh (2 in as many games) and Jack Hart gave Withernsea a 2 - 1 half-time lead against a strong Hessle side. Indeed, the scoreline did not reflect the pressure Withernsea put their opponents under and they could have quite easily been 7 - 1 up at the break but for spurned chances.
The second half started badly as Lorimer conceded a penalty that was duly dispatched past the keeper to draw the sides level. Withernsea continued to push and a fine strike from Zak Hunt gave the hosts the lead with fifteen minutes to play. Hessle drew level with a well taken goal before a breakaway in the final seconds gave Hessle the points as Withernsea pressed for a winner. A good performance all round with Man of the Match going to Adam Jobling.
Withernsea High School 2 - 3 Hessle High School
Another tight game that was also settled right at the death. Withernsea, still reeling from a 10 - 2 reverse at South Hunsley last week, quite rightly led 2 - 1 with only five minutes left on the clock (goals courtesy of Callum Dean and Billy Frith). Unfortunately, a lack of concentration and a suspect piece of goal tending right at the death allowed the visitors to steal all three points with almost the last kick of the game. Callum Dean still had a last gasp effort to claim a point but had his effort cleared off the line. This was a much improved team performance and one that should give the lads confidence going in to tomorrows cup tie with Hornsea.
Years 7, 8 and 10 face Hornsea in the cup tomorrow. Kick off at 4pm. Year 7 will be playing on the Withernsea AFC pitch with Years 8 and 10 playing on the pitches behind the old sports hall.
