Last Friday (27/11/15), a number of Year 7 boys took part in the annual East Riding leg of the national five-a-side football competition which was held at 'Goals' on Clough Road, Hull. The draw was not very kind to the Withernsea players as they found themselves in a group with some much larger schools. However, our students rose to the challenge and put in a sterling effort.
In the first game Withernsea competed well, but after battling back from 4-0 to 4-3 they eventually lost 5-3. Scorers for Withernsea were Finn, Hart and Wilson.
In the second game came a surprise success as they outfought Hessle to win 2-0, with the goals coming from Aiden Snaith and Ryan Dale.
After leading 1-0 at half time against eventual tournament winners South Hunsley, thanks to a goal from Jobling, the wheels came off as they conceded 5 goals in two minutes to lose 5-1 and a further defeat came against Wolfreton as Jobling scored again in a 3-1 defeat.
Charlie Clark was on the scoresheet in the next game against Cottingham but Withernsea were soundly beaten 4-1.
Group stages done and Withernsea are near the bottom. We played Longcroft in a last place play-off and came off winners 3-1. Well done to all the boys.
