The widely reported changes to this year’s performance tables have had an impact on the published performance data for our school. This is due primarily to only the first GCSE entry counting in the tables, a decision that was made just a few weeks before students were due to sit their pre-planned November entry.
Following last week's sad news of the death of Miss Mary Mendham, a well respected former member of staff and Senior Mistress of Withernsea High School who passed away at the age of 103, we received a number of tributes from some of her ex-students. We would like to share these with you below...
Yesterday (Tuesday 20th), Year 7 students took part in a special PSHE day which explored the consequences of smoking. Students took part in team challenges to discover how smoking can impact a person’s general health and wellbeing. There was a treasure hunt for information, and all students worked in teams to produce a radio advert aimed at teenagers, which they performed in front of their peers. The students conducted themselves brilliantly throughout the day, and demonstrated creativity, responsibility and resilience.
We are saddened to hear of the passing of one of Withernsea High School’s most respected and well-known former members of staff. Miss Mary Mendham passed away this morning (Thursday 22nd January) at the impressive age of 103.
On behalf of the whole school community, we extend our sincere condolences to her family and friends.
We would like to invite ex-students and staff to share their memories of her with us, which we will later publish on our website, by emailing them to email@example.com
